The Last Wish is a 2022 American computer-animated comedy-adventure movie that DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures both release. The sixth Shrek movie and the follow-up to the 2011 spin-off Puss in Boots was directed by Joel Crawford, co-directed by Januel Mercado, and written by Paul Fisher, Tommy Swerdlow, and Tom Wheeler. The voice cast includes Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek Pinault reprising their respective roles as the titular character and Kitty Softpaws, as well as newcomers Harvey Guillén, Florence Pugh, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, John Mulaney, Wagner Moura, Da'Vine Joy Randolph, and Anthony Mendez. The character is based on the character from Shrek 2 (2004) and inspired by the fairy tale of the same name.
Legendary hero and outlaw Puss in Boots rouses a monster, subdues it, but is afterwards smashed by a bell while throwing a celebration in the Spanish town of Del Mar. When Puss awakens in a hospital, the local physician informs him that he has lost eight of his nine lives. The doctor advises Puss to retire, but he rejects the idea. That evening in a pub, Puss encounters a black-hooded wolf, who engages him in a sword duel and disarms and wounds him. Traumatized by the incident, Puss runs away to Mama Luna's house for cats and buries his garments there. Several months later, Puss encounters Perrit, a cheerful Chihuahua dressed as a cat.
